Duke Energy continues to monitor first winter storm of 2017; crews prepared to respond

Charlotte, NA, United States (4E) – Duke Energy said Friday that it is closely monitoring the first winter storm of the year, which is expected to bring snow to North Carolina and South Carolina this weekend.

The Charlotte, North Carolina-headquartered company said it would adjust its preparation plans accordingly and added that its meteorologists will continue to monitor weather conditions.

Boy’s bag caught in chair lift at Utah ski resort causing child to dangle from above

Sundance, UT, United States (4E) – A boy was dangling from above a few feet from the ground after his backpack was caught in a chair at a lift at a ski resort in Utah.

The boy was hanging from one strap of the backpack and the rescue lasted for minutes. The area where this happened is said to be at the Sundance Resort in Utah. Clint Ashmead , one of the ski resort goers and was riding in the chair in front of where the boy got caught, said that the child was hanging down below the chair lift that was a couple of feet away from the ground. Ashmead said that the other concern was the boy not just dropping from the lift but also being strangled by the backpack’s strap.

Girl, 8, dead after tree fell onto Oregon home

Otis, OR, United States (4E) – A girl died in their home in Oregon after a tree fell and the girl is said to be the daughter of a volunteer firefighters who was not at home during the incident.

The girl was identified as eight-year-old Zaylee Schlecht . North Lincoln Fire and Rescue said that crews were dispatched at 11:13 p.m. on Tuesday as they received a call about a tree that fell onto the home and a girl was trapped inside. The home was in Otis.

Helicopter downed in Los Angeles, two dead

Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – A helicopter went missing and reports about it being downed reached authorities after it took off from a Southern California airport.

According to reports, two people have been confirmed dead after the helicopter was found in harbor waters. They were said to be on a photography flight and the helicopter was identified as Robinson R22 . The helicopter was found at around 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Los Angeles Harbor. Port of Los Angeles spokesman, Phillip Sanfield said that crews tried to remove the two bodies from the fuselage. Their identities have not been confirmed yet but are said to be Michael Justice, the photographer, and Christopher Reed, the pilot.

Long Island Rail Road train crashes, injures over 100

Brooklyn, NY, United States (4E) – More than 100 people were injured on Wednesday after a Long Island Rail Road ( LIRR ) train failed to stop at the end of a track at Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn, New York.

The National Transportation Safety Board ( NTSB ) sent their team to investigate the matter. The NTSB team is led by investigator Jim Southworth . The crash took place on Wednesday at around 8:15 A.M. The train is said to be No. 2817 and was pulling into the terminal on Track 6. Metropolitan Transportation Authority Chairman Tom Prendergast said in a statement that the train first went up then over the bumping block then crashed into an employee area that was on the platform.
